Conservative talk show host: disgraceful Nancy Mace...Go away

On CNN This Morning on August 28, 2026, conservative radio host Jason Rantz (KTTH Seattle) tore apart Rep. Nancy Mace's proposal to bar naturalized citizens from serving in Congress, on the federal bench, or in the Cabinet. Host Audie Cornish, herself a naturalized citizen, asked Rantz point-blank: 'I want to ask, when will I be American?' Rantz refused to defend the resolution, said Mace 'does not represent the mainstream of Republicans or Americans on this particular topic at all,' and closed with a direct rebuke: 'This is a disgraceful bill by a disgraceful Nancy Mace, who's been rejected by Republicans. Go away!'

Jason Rantz, a conservative radio host on KTTH in Seattle, closed his CNN critique of Rep. Nancy Mace's proposed constitutional amendment with a sentence aimed directly at the congresswoman: "You deserve rights, you deserve respect for agreeing with our culture, our values, our principles, and everything we stand for in this country, and this is a disgraceful bill by a disgraceful Nancy Mace, who's been rejected by Republicans. Go away!"

The exchange aired on CNN This Morning on August 28, 2026. Rantz was not a liberal critic or a political opponent. He was the conservative voice CNN invited to evaluate the proposal, and he declined to defend it.

The resolution

Mace introduced a joint resolution to propose a constitutional amendment that would extend the natural-born citizenship requirement, which the Constitution already imposes on the presidency, to members of Congress, federal judges, and Cabinet members. Under the current Constitution, naturalized citizens may serve in all three of those roles. An amendment would require two-thirds votes in both chambers of Congress and ratification by three-fourths of states.

The CNN interview

CNN This Morning host Audie Cornish, who is herself a naturalized citizen, framed the stakes at the outset: "She's put forth a bill that would require members of Congress, federal judges and cabinet members to be natural-born citizens." Then she made it personal: "I want to ask, when will I be American? I'm a naturalized citizen."

Rantz, invited to offer the conservative perspective, told Cornish to put the question where it belonged: "You should ask Nancy Mace that question."

He then separated Mace from her party: "She does not represent the mainstream of Republicans or Americans on this particular topic at all."

He placed the resolution in a cluster of stalled legislation: "This is being pursued by a small group of folks who are very loud, and to your point, a lot of the bills are already dead." He warned against treating the proposal as representative of the Republican Party as a whole: "So this is one of those issues that I think is a bad look when you're able to push it upon all Republicans." He repeated the distinction: "But all Republicans clearly do not hold this view."

He then turned to Cornish directly: "You deserve rights, you deserve respect for agreeing with our culture, our values, our principles, and everything we stand for in this country, and this is a disgraceful bill by a disgraceful Nancy Mace, who's been rejected by Republicans. Go away!"
