At a House Oversight Committee hearing on USAID foreign spending, Mace opened with a question using a slur directed at transgender people.

At a House Oversight & Government Reform Committee hearing on USAID foreign spending on February 5, 2025, Mace opened her questioning with:
"Does this advance the interests of American citizens, paying for tr*****s in Guatemala to the tune of $2 million?"
The question came at the start of a hearing examining USAID foreign-assistance spending. Mace's use of an anti-transgender slur drew immediate objections from Democratic colleagues at the same hearing.
