"Getting my ass kicked": Mace's post-loss X tear, from beans to vowing "revenge" on Trump

After finishing fifth (~12.1%) in the June 9, 2026 South Carolina Republican gubernatorial primary, Mace posted a days-long run of defiant messages on X that outlets including Townhall, The Blaze and HuffPost described as a 'crash out.' She wrote she was 'getting my ass kicked,' posted a bowl of beans, vowed to be 'more of a menace than ever,' and said that the answer to whether she would get 'revenge on Trump for ending your political career' was 'yes.'

On June 9, 2026, Nancy Mace finished fifth in the South Carolina Republican gubernatorial primary, taking roughly 12.1 percent of the vote. What followed over the next three days was a steady run of posts on her X account (@NancyMace) that outlets across the spectrum catalogued as a meltdown.

HuffPost's Kelby Vera reported that Mace "admits she got her 'ass kicked.'" Townhall's Matt Vespa called it another "crash out." The Blaze's Cortney Weil wrote that Mace "crashes and burns." By June 11, Mediaite, Raw Story and The Mirror had all picked up a single post in which she said she would, in fact, get "revenge" on the president she had spent months courting.

The "crash out" and "meltdown" framing belongs to those outlets. Mace has attributed the loss to her vote to release files related to Jeffrey Epstein rather than to her own conduct, telling supporters in her concession remarks that she "lost some support for that." The posts below are hers, verbatim.

The morning after: "getting my ass kicked"

The first post of the day was a coffee-in-hand jab. It is the line HuffPost and The Daily Beast both put in their headlines.

Mace's June 10 post: "Enjoying my first cup of coffee since getting my ass kicked last night, and reading about how Dems nominated the guy with the nazi tattoo."

Later that day she returned to a recurring bit from her own feed, posting a bowl of baked beans (a callback to a viral 2024 birthday post) over the caption that she would not be eating ice cream.

She also recast the defeat as a matter of principle, returning to the Epstein theme that ran through her campaign.

"More of a menace than ever"

On June 11, replying to praise from actor Rob Schneider, Mace promised her departure from Congress would not quiet her down. Just The News led with the line.

Mace's June 11 reply: "Never thought I'd get my Congressional send-off from Deuce Bigalow. Don't worry sir, I promise to be more of a menace than ever. There is nothing to hold me back."

She also quote-posted coverage of her last-place finish with a one-liner.

"Revenge on Trump"

The post that drew the widest coverage came later on June 11. President Trump had endorsed Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette over Mace in late May, a snub Mace blamed for her defeat. Asked, she said, whether she would retaliate, she answered in the affirmative.

Mace's June 11 post: "People keep asking me: 'Will you get revenge on Trump for ending your political career?' The answer is yes. I'll be adding to the unemployment number in January."

The reference is to leaving office in January, which outlets including The Mirror read as trolling aimed at Trump's economic record rather than a literal threat. The post itself is below, live on X:

"Clearly I aimed too high"

By June 12 the posts had turned to the endorsement she did not get, with a pair of messages taking veiled shots at rivals.

Sparring with Omar, and "back to the private sector"

When Rep. Ilhan Omar was among the Democrats who mocked the loss, Mace fired back with a recycled jab. Fox News and Twitchy covered the exchange.

Amid the jabs, she framed her exit as a choice, citing what she described as a three-term pledge from 2020.

Mace's June 10 post: "Headed back to the private sector at the end of this term, as the Founders intended. When I ran in 2020 I said I'd only serve 3 terms and my time is up. It's truly been an immense honor and I wouldn't trade it for anything else."

Mace's term ends in January 2027; she did not file for re-election to her House seat after entering the governor's race. Her own stated explanation for the defeat, repeated across these posts, is her Epstein-files vote rather than her temperament or her standing with the president.
