Mace votes against Santos expulsion: 'George Santos is an a--, who, like every other American, deserves the presumption of innocence'

On December 1, 2023, after the House voted 311-114 to expel Rep. George Santos, only the sixth expulsion in House history, Mace posted on X:
"George Santos is an a--, who, like every other American, deserves the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges are not a conviction. Today's vote was not about accountability, which should have been in the hands of the courts and the people of NY-03. This was about shifting the balance of power in Congress, and I won't play those games."
Critics immediately surfaced Mace's January 2023 statement calling Santos's "entire resume in life manufactured" as a direct contradiction. The House Ethics Committee had found "substantial evidence" that Santos used campaign funds for personal expenses and other misconduct.
